Sundance is not a city. It is Robert Redford's mountain resort on the northeast slope of Mount Timpanogos, a couple of miles up a winding road from the Provo Canyon highway, with a small resort community of about 113 residents. Redford bought the little Timp Haven ski hill in 1968 and built a place meant to be, in his words, developed a little and preserved a lot.
True AV has worked at Sundance Mountain Resort. Production here is about getting gear up a canyon road, into rooms built for art and film, and sometimes up a chairlift, so we plan the route, the vehicles and the backup gear before show day.

Sundance grew into the home of the Sundance Institute, and its Screening Room was built in 1987 to show the Institute's lab work and festival films. Redford sold the resort in 2020 and lived there until his death on September 16, 2025.
The Sundance Film Festival held its last Utah edition in 2026 and moves to Boulder, Colorado, from 2027. The festival was centered in Park City, so the resort's own venues and events carry on unchanged.
SR-92 is the only road to the resort. The Alpine Loop stretch through American Fork Canyon closes in winter, so trucks and guests come up from US-189 in Provo Canyon for the cold months. The resort recommends four-wheel-drive rentals for winter visitors.
The resort's weather station sits at 6,620 ft, where July averages a high near 81 F and a low near 58 F, and January highs stay near freezing. Evening outdoor shows get cold fast, and winter load-ins need a snow plan.
Bearclaw Cabin, at about 8,250 ft on the ridge, is reached by the Outlaw Express and Red's Lift. Elk Meadows is reached by resort four-wheel-drive vehicles or a short hike, so every speaker and cable has to travel that way too.

No. The festival was centered in Park City and Salt Lake City, and 2026 was its last year in Utah. It moves to Boulder, Colorado, starting in 2027. The resort and its Screening Room remain open for events.
The resort is about an hour from Salt Lake City International and about 30 minutes from Provo Airport, up SR-92 from the Provo Canyon highway. The resort suggests ride services or four-wheel-drive rentals in winter, and offers complimentary valet on property for overnight guests.
