Salt Lake City is where Utah holds its biggest conventions, galas and downtown festivals. It is also a city in transition: the Salt Palace closes in fall 2027 for about three years, Temple Square reopens with a six-month open house in 2027, and the 2034 Winter Olympics are on the calendar.
True AV brings sound, lighting, staging, LED video walls and backline to downtown hotel ballrooms, county theaters, the Capitol and outdoor plazas. Salt Lake County will close the Salt Palace Convention Center for about three years starting in fall 2027, with reopening targeted for early 2031. Events are booked through summer 2027. If your convention falls between 2027 and 2030, plan on a hotel ballroom, another downtown venue or the county's Expo Center in Sandy.
Special event permit applications are due at least 30 days out, or 60 days if alcohol is served. The city recommends applying 3 to 6 months before setup, and proof of insurance is due 14 days before setup. Production plans for stages and power should be ready when you apply.
The Utah Arts Festival fills Library Square in June, the Twilight Concert Series plays the Gallivan Center and Civic Center, and the Days of '47 Parade on July 24 closes major downtown streets from South Temple and State Street to Liberty Park. Book crews and check street closures before you lock a summer date.
The city sits at about 4,300 ft between the Wasatch and Oquirrh mountains. From December through February, inversions trap cold, polluted air in the valley. Outdoor winter events need a cold-weather plan for load-in, cabling and guest comfort.
The Salt Lake Temple open house runs April 5 to October 1, 2027 across the 35-acre Temple Square area. Expect heavy visitor traffic and tight parking near North Temple during those months, so build extra time into downtown load-ins.
Conventions, trade shows, galas and large corporate meetings
AV note: 40 loading docks and 1,000 underground parking stalls. The venue has in-house event technology services and rigging policies. Closing fall 2027 for about 3 years.
Broadway tours, concerts, galas and corporate events
AV note: Full proscenium house with a six-story glass lobby. The 2,400 sq ft Black Box has movable seating platforms for private and corporate events.
Home of the Utah Symphony; concerts and events
AV note: An acoustic concert hall, so reinforcement should support the room rather than overpower it.
Utah Opera, Ballet West, touring shows and private rentals
AV note: Historic proscenium theater. Rentals are booked through Salt Lake County Arts & Culture.
Dance, theater, film, recitals and private events
AV note: Proscenium theater with published tech specs. Book through the county's venue booking request.
Outdoor concerts, festivals, private rentals and a winter ice rink
AV note: Outdoor stage and amphitheater. No vehicles or drones on the plaza, and the plaza closes 10 p.m. to 7 a.m., so plan strike times around it.
Weddings, galas, corporate and government events in 28 spaces plus plazas and lawns
AV note: Special event insurance required and a setup diagram is due 2 weeks before the event. The Hall of Governors is limited to certain event types.
Utah State Fair, festivals, concerts, trade shows and corporate parties
AV note: Large indoor halls and an outdoor arena. Production is typically brought in.
Summer outdoor concerts, weddings and corporate events
AV note: Outdoor amphitheatre stage. The Terrace is closed October through April.

AV note: Includes a basic AV package (50 accent lights, two speakers, a wireless mic). Larger shows need added production. 150 free parking spaces.
Lectures, after-hours events and festivals on the square
AV note: The auditorium has a stage and stadium seating. The outdoor plaza needs full outside production.
Corporate events, weddings and private parties
AV note: Small historic building and lawn. Audio is brought in.

The Salt Palace will be closed for reconstruction, so look at downtown hotel ballrooms such as The Grand America (up to 3,000) or the Hyatt Regency (2,875 in its largest ballroom), or the county's Mountain America Expo Center in Sandy. We can scope production for any of them.

Many downtown hotels and the Salt Palace have in-house AV teams or rigging policies. We coordinate with them and bring the production the house package does not cover, such as concert sound, LED walls, staging or a live band backline.
